Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists (also knows as perinatologists), Drs. Steven Feinstein and Albert Sarno, have provided consultative high-risk pregnancy care in the Lehigh Valley longer than any other physicians in the region. They founded and developed the well-respected Perinatal Center at St. Luke's Hospital and are now in private practice.
They, and their highly trained staff of perinatal sonographers, nurses and genetic counselor, are trained in all facets of high-risk pregnancy care.
The Valley Perinatal team provides efficient, state-of-the-art, compassionate care in a comforting environment that emphasizes customer service and rapid communication of results to attending physicians.
Dr. Albert Peter Sarno Jr., MD, MPH, FACOG
Dr. Al Sarno is one of five siblings, the son of a career military officer. He lived in many different places during childhood, including Europe, but grew up in San Diego, California. Dr. Sarno has lived and worked as an OB/GYN doctor and specialist in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in various locales such as Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco and Honolulu. During this time, he served a total of 12 years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, rising to the rank of Lt. Col before coming to the Lehigh Valley 15 years ago.
He performed his Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Women's Hospital, Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center.
Dr. Sarno is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Sarno lives in Bethlehem with his wife Bonnie. He has two wonderful children, Justin and Nicole. His hobbies include traveling, cycling, music and reading.
Dr. Steven Jay Feinstein, MD, FACOG
Dr. Feinstein is originally from Brooklyn, New York. After Ob/Gyn residency, and completion of fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center, he practiced in Philadelphia, Syracuse and Hartford before settling in Bethlehem.
He was the first clinical perinatologist in the Lehigh Valley, founding the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in January, 1991. Dr. Feinstein is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
He was joined by Dr. Sarno in 1993 and together they developed the highly respected Perinatal Center. There, they performed the first invasive fetal procedures to be done in the region, including intrauterine transfusions and fetal bladder shunt placement.
Dr. Feinstein has three great sons, Alex, Patrick and Harry.

Dory received her bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg University and later, her RDMS from Ultrasound Diagnostic School in Newark, New Jersey. She has specialized in High Risk Obstetrical ultrasound since 1990, subsequently joining Dr. Feinstein at the St. Luke's Perinatal Center in 1991 and then serving as the head sonographer since 2000. She now takes on the position as coordinator of obstetrical ultrasound for Valley Perinatal Associates.
Jillian was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley where she attended Moravian College for two years. She then went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Imaging from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She has been in the field of High Risk OB Ultrasound since 2006. She began her career at Pennsylvania Hospital’s Prenatal Diagnosis Center. She then worked with Drs. Sarno and Feinstein for over two years at the St. Luke’s Perinatal Center before accepting her new position with them at Valley Perinatal Associates.
Tara was raised in the Poconos. She attended Mansfield University where she trained at Robert Packer Hospital to receive her degree in Radiologic Technology. While working at Healthworks of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Tara attended Northampton County Community College from which she received a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Immediately following graduation in 2007, she began working at St. Luke's Perinatal Center. She will now continue working as a High Risk OB sonographer at Valley Perinatal Associates.
Kathy is a lifetime resident of Bethlehem. After graduating from Liberty High School, she chose to be a stay at home mom. Kathy and her husband raised three children and now enjoy the pleasures of grandparenthood. While raising her children, Kathy worked from home for many years doing manuscript typing. She then took night courses at Northampton County Community College to help her enhance her medical transcription skills. When her kids reached college level, Kathy entered the mainstream workforce, spending the last fourteen years as a medical transcriptionist at the St. Luke's Perinatal Center. Kathy and her husband spend their time walking, golfing and visiting their grandchildren.
Laura is a lifetime Lehigh Valley native. She resides in Tatamy with her two teenage sons, David and Jonathan. Laura has completed her coding certification and is now a certified coder.
Donna is a lifelong resident of Phillipsburg, NJ. Prior to joining Valley Perinatal Associates, she was employed for the past nine years by Warren Hospital as the Director of Operations for the hospital-based physician practices. Donna has extensive knowledge in medical practice management and has been a member of Medical Group management Association (MGMA) for the past nine years.
Maria lives in Greenwich Township, NJ with her husband. She has a 25 year old daughter, Kate, and a 21 year old son Steven and her Golden Retriever Midas. With more than 20 years experience in medical billing, Maria brings vast knowledge to our billing practice and is dedicated to helping all our patients with any insurance issues they may have.
Nikki was born in Monterey, CA, and moved to the Lehigh Valley with her family when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Liberty High School, and holds a bachelors degree in psychology from Smith College. Post college she lived in 2 spiritual communities & traveled to Peru for 2 months. Recently, she completed a 1-month meditation intensive at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, and is hoping to re-locate there in the near future.
Corinne lives in Palmer Township, PA with her fiancé John and their son Noah. She is a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, and is pursuing a nursing degree. In her spare time, Corinne enjoys shopping, being a mom, the outdoors, and spending time with her horses.
Karen has been a Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Obstetrics and Women's health Care since 1993. She received her first nursing degree, with Highest Honors, from the College of Staten Island. Karen began working in obstetrics immediately after graduation and has continued to advance her education and skills in this field ever since, joining Drs. Feinstein and Sarno in 1998 and, in 2001 becoming the first Nurse Practitioner of the St. Luke's Perinatal Center.
