Who is Valley Perinatal Associates? |
We specialize in caring for women whose pregnancies are considered to be at high risk due to medical, surgical, and obstetrical risk factors.
Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists (also known as perinatologists), Drs. Steven Feinstein and Albert Sarno, have provided consultative high-risk pregnancy care in the Lehigh Valley longer than any other physicians in the region.
They founded and developed the well-respected Perinatal Center at St. Luke's Hospital and are now in private practice. They, and their highly trained staff of perinatal sonographers, nurses and genetic counselor, are trained in all facets of high-risk pregnancy care. |
What services and procedures do you offer?
Valley Perinatal offers a range of various procedures and services to provide the optimal result for a mother and her unborn baby.
You may see us prior to your pregnancy to devise a plan that maximizes your chances for a healthy pregnancy and baby (this is called a pre-conceptional consultation).
For women already pregnant, typical procedures provided include first and second trimester genetic risk assessment, high resolution fetal ultrasound (including 3D/4D), chorionic villous sampling, amniocentesis, fetal echocardiography, fetal growth monitoring, Doppler blood flow studies, fetal biophysical evaluations (non-stress test, amniotic fluid volume assessments and biophysical profiles), and selected fetal therapy. |
How do I schedule an appointment with Valley Perinatal Associates?
Your obstetrician will fax a request for consultation along with all of your pregnancy records to our office. You may then call our office to schedule an appointment. In addition to standard Monday-Friday hours, we also provide limited evening and weekend hours. |
We are a consulting group, which means that your primary obstetrican or other care giver, would be the one to send you to us. They would specify in what manner we could best be of assistance to them and work with them in the management of your pregnancy. They would also serve to coordinate care among several different specialists for you should it be necessary.
Should you be requesting a pre-conception consult, it may be possible to see you on self-referral, however we will still need all applicable past medical records PRIOR to your visit. |
Will my insurance company cover the cost of my maternal-fetal care? |
Your insurance plan will specify the level of coverage for your maternal-fetal care, and the Valley Perinatal Associates billing staff will assist you and your insurance company. |

Who makes the decision as to what course of treatment is taken? |
The patient and patient families or the physicians?
We believe in a team approach to managing maternal and fetal problems. We will offer counseling and recommendations to you and your obstetrician. Working together, we will design a treatment plan that ensures the very best possible outcome for your pregnancy. |
Can I still see my regular OB/GYN? |
Yes. Your OB/GYN remains an integral part of your caregiver team. We keep him or her closely informed throughout every step of evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Your obstetrician remains your delivering doctor. |
Can I bring a camera or take videos of the examination? |
We do not permit videotaping of exams but will be happy to give you photos.
You are also welcome to bring a recordable CD-R or CD-RW and we can burn images onto it for you! Please remember though, that this is assuming that time and situation permit |
Will I get a 3D Ultrasound? |
Our ultrasound machines are 3D and 4D capable. We often employ this technology to help refine and diagnose certain structural defects of the baby when suspected by 2D real-time ultrasound.
We know that many patients will want pictures of their baby's face or other areas as mementos and we will do our best to get those for you as time and individual situation permits. |
Can I bring my family or children? |
While we understand the desire of patients to include their small children in the examination of their siblings, it has been our experience over many years that children quickly lose their attention when they don't see "pictures" as they expect them to be. It often becomes difficult to then focus on the business at hand of medical examination and further problematic should an anomaly or other issue be found that necessitates more in depth discussion.
We will make every effort to bring your children in to the room AFTER the exam is finished as time and individual situation permits. If a child is brought with you to the office, we ask that a spouse/partner or other care giver remain with the child in the waiting area until called. |
